  • 1 head cabbage
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/3 cup uncooked white rice
  • 2/3 cup water
  • 2 cans (10.75 oz each) tomato soup
  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce (vegetarian if necessary)
  • 1/4 cup onion (finely chopped)
  • 1 egg (beaten)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Blanch the cabbage by boiling it whole for about 12–14 minutes until outer leaves are pliable. Carefully peel off the leaves.
  3. In a medium saucepan, combine water and rice; bring to a boil, then reduce heat and cover until rice is fluffy.
  4. In a large mixing bowl, combine cooked rice, ground beef, onion, beaten egg, salt, black pepper, Worcestershire sauce, and brown sugar; mix until well combined.
  5. Lay out each cabbage leaf and place about two tablespoons of filling in the center. Fold sides inward and roll tightly.
  6. Arrange the rolls in a baking dish and pour tomato soup mixture over them.
  7. Cover with extra cabbage leaves and aluminum foil; bake for 90 minutes.
