  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 6 to 7 cups thinly sliced peeled tart apples
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 rounds of store-bought pie crust
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 large egg white
  • Additional sugar for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a small bowl, mix granulated sugar, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, ginger, and nutmeg.
  3. In a large bowl, toss sliced apples with lemon juice and the sugar mixture until well coated.
  4. Place one round of dough in a pie plate and fill with apple mixture. Dot with butter.
  5. Cover with the second dough round; seal and flute edges. Cut slits for steam.
  6. Brush egg white over crust and sprinkle with additional sugar.
  7. Bake for about 35–50 minutes or until golden brown and bubbly.
