  • 1 package (16 oz) firm tofu
  • 1/2 cup neutral oil (canola recommended)
  • 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup cornstarch
  • 1 cup orange juice
  • 1/3 to 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons tamari or soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • Optional: 1 tablespoon Sriracha, ginger, garlic

Instructions

  1. Press and pat dry the tofu, then cut it into small nuggets.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, cornstarch, garlic powder, salt, and enough water to form a slightly runny batter.
  3. Coat each tofu nugget in the batter.
  4. Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat and fry the tofu until golden brown on both sides. Drain on paper towels.
  5. In another bowl, mix orange juice, sugar, tamari, rice vinegar, Sriracha (if using), ginger, and garlic.
  6. Pour the sauce mixture into a skillet over medium heat and simmer for about 5 minutes.
  7. Fold in the crispy tofu until coated with sauce. Serve hot over rice.
