Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • ¼ cup milk
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil for frying
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced
  • 4 large russet potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • ½ cup milk
  • ¼ cup butter
  • ¼ cup sour cream (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat a skillet over medium heat. In a large bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, chopped onion, garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper until well combined.
  2. Roll mixture into 1-inch meatballs and fry in olive oil until browned on all sides (about 7-8 minutes). Set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, melt butter and sauté sliced onions until golden brown. Stir in flour for one minute before gradually adding beef broth and Worcestershire sauce to create gravy. Simmer until thickened.
  4. Return meatballs to the skillet; let simmer in gravy for added flavor.
  5. Boil cubed potatoes in salted water until tender (15-20 minutes). Drain and mash with milk, butter, sour cream (if desired), salt, and pepper until smooth.
  6. Serve mashed potatoes topped with meatballs and gravy.
