  • ¾ cup milk (whole or 2%)
  • ½ cup half and half
  • 1 cup pumpkin puree
  • 9 cups cubed day-old French bread
  • ⅔ cup light brown sugar
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 ½ teaspoons pumpkin pie spice
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • ⅔ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
  • Pinch salt

Instructions

  1. Whisk together eggs, milk, half and half, brown sugar, pumpkin puree, pumpkin pie spice, and vanilla extract in a large bowl until smooth.
  2. Add cubed French bread to a greased baking dish and pour the custard mixture over it evenly.
  3. In another bowl, combine remaining brown sugar, flour, pumpkin pie spice, salt, and softened butter until crumbly; sprinkle over soaked bread.
  4. Cover with foil and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 30 minutes; uncover and bake for another 15 minutes until golden brown.
  5. Let cool slightly before serving warm with maple syrup.
