  • 0.25 oz packet instant yeast
  • 2 Tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1 cup milk
  • ¾ tsp salt
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 4 Tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 large egg (beaten)
  • â…“ cup potato flakes
  • â…“ cup hot water
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 Tbsp unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ tsp ground ginger
  • 2 tsp orange zest
  • ¼ cup freshly squeezed orange juice
  • 4 oz block-style cream cheese
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tsp orange zest
  • 2 Tbsp freshly squeezed orange juice

Instructions

  1. Dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water; set aside.
  2. Scald milk; whisk in salt, sugar, and butter until dissolved. Let cool.
  3. Mix potato flakes with hot water until smooth.
  4. In a stand mixer, combine the egg, yeast mixture, milk mixture, and potato mixture; gradually add flour to form a sticky dough.
  5. Knead dough for about 5–10 minutes until elastic; let rise covered for about an hour.
  6. Prepare the filling by mixing sugar, ginger, and orange zest; add enough orange juice to create a thick mixture.
  7. Roll out dough into a rectangle; spread softened butter and sprinkle filling on top.
  8. Roll tightly and cut into pieces; let rise again until puffy (30–60 minutes).
  9. Bake at 350°F for about 20–25 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Make glaze by beating cream cheese with powdered sugar, zest, and juice; drizzle over warm rolls.
