  • ½ cup ice water
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup blanched slivered almonds, toasted and ground
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour (for filling)
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Powdered sugar (for glaze)
  • Milk (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the dough by whisking together flour and salt in a bowl. Cut in cold butter until crumbly. Gradually add ice water until the mixture forms a dough. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Make the filling by combining sugar, heavy cream, ground almonds, flour, almond extract, vanilla extract, and salt in a bowl until smooth.
  3. Roll out the chilled dough into an oval shape about ¼ inch thick. Spread the filling down the center and fold the sides over to seal.
  4. Bake at 375°F (190°C) on a parchment-lined sheet for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  5. Cool slightly before glazing with powdered sugar mixed with milk.
